It started with a friend, a coffee, and a tired sigh.
In 2024, a friend showed me her inbox on a popular Muslim app - a stream of low-effort openers, recycled photos, and men asking for her number before they'd asked her name. She was 29, exhausted, and very serious about getting married.
I'm a builder. I went home and asked one question: what would an app look like if it actually slowed down? What if you couldn't shortcut someone into a yes or no with a single photo?
That became KeepItHalal. We took the parts of traditional matchmaking that worked - patience, family, seriousness of intent - and rebuilt them as a modern product.
Make the kind of product you'd want your sister on.
Ray, founder
Our mission
Halal matchmaking, taken seriously.
To help Muslims find meaningful, faith-led relationships - keeping Islamic values, respect, and compatibility at the centre of every connection.
Intention first
Built for marriage and serious relationships. No swipe-for-fun, no boost auctions, no ad games.
Modesty by default
Anonymous for 3 days. No photos until mutual reveal. Verification photos never seen by matches.
Family welcome
Wali co-chat is built in, not bolted on. Your family is invited into the journey if you want them.
Quiet, not loud
No vanity metrics. No ranks. No public profiles. Just two people, getting to know each other.
Our core values
What we stand for.
Islamic principles first
Every feature is designed with Islamic values at its core - respectful, modest, and serious interactions only.
Community & trust
We value the role of the Muslim community and the trust members place in one another and in us.
Meaningful connection
Compatibility, serious intent, and long-term, marriage-minded relationships - never casual.
Safety & privacy
Discretion, encryption, and human moderation are non-negotiable foundations of the platform.
How we're different
Built differently, on purpose.
The features other apps treat as add-ons are the foundations here.
Photo verification
Every profile goes through selfie + ID verification by a human reviewer, helping ensure authenticity and safety.
Modesty settings
Control photo visibility based on personal comfort and modesty preferences - your photos, your rules.
Curated matches, not endless swiping
We surface carefully selected matches based on preferences and compatibility, not infinite scrolling.
Professional vetting service
Optional enhanced vetting with family-led or professional checks for members who want extra assurance.
Family involvement
Wali co-chat and family-aware flows recognise how important family is to Muslim marriage decisions.
Medal of Honor recognition
Members who complete deep verification and demonstrate serious intent earn a visible recognition badge.
The team
A small team, on purpose.
Built across London, Toronto, and Dubai. Half Muslim, half not - all of us tired of how dating apps treated us.
